I was just seven years old when the Islamic Revolution took place in Iran. As members of the Baha’i Faith, my parents lost their jobs and business, and my family faced severe restrictions and discrimination. Despite my difficult childhood, I was a happy and creative kid. I loved writing skits, and my sister and I would perform them for our neighbors and family. That was my very first “business” at around age ten. I still remember the first time I sold tickets for one of my shows in our neighborhood. When I proudly brought home the earnings, my mom made me return every coin I earned, reminding me that service to others should come from the heart, not for profit.

I was denied the right to attend university in Iran, as Baha’is were banned from higher education. Still, I found a way forward through BIHE, a grassroots underground university for Baha’i youth, where I studied English. Later, after my daughter was born, I built a career teaching English to kids her age—so I could stay with her while also helping other families.

In 2004, my family and I entered the United States. Adjusting to a new country, a new culture, with little money and no established network, was very difficult. Despite these challenges, I continued my education and earned my master’s degree, using transcripts from my underground university in Iran—driven by my commitment to be a responsible citizen and an active member of my community.

I faced job loss once again. But each ending has given me the courage to create something new. Today, that “something new” is Liner Jewelry LLC.
